BOTOX® COSMETIC and DERMAL FILLERS
Botox® works well to soften lines in the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet, while hyaluronic dermal fillers such as Juvederm® Voluma can help restore volume to the midface and reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds. Come in to M50 for a consultation to come up with a comprehensive plan to address your concerns.
BOTOX® COSMETIC
BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults – to help them look visibly smoother.
DERMAL FILLERS
Dermal fillers help replace lost volume and fill in wrinkles that are present without facial expressions in order to obtain a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are small injections of gel, typically made up of hylauronic acid, that fill in wrinkles and add volume to soft tissue. You can have dermal fillers in different parts of your face: around the eye, cheeks, mouth and jawline, as well as lip fillers administered directly into the lip tissue.

JUVÉDERM® COLLECTION OF FILLERS
JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC
First approved by the FDA in 2006, JUVÉDERM® XC corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the parentheses lines or "smile lines" around the nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM® XC is injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur to temporarily add volume to the skin, which may give the appearance of a smoother surface.
JUVÉDERM® ULTRA PLUS XC
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is an injectable gel that temporarily adds more fullness and plumps thin lips—whether your lips have thinned over time or you simply want fuller lips—in adults over the age of 21. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is also approved for smoothing and correcting moderate to severe parentheses lines, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines around the nose and mouth), in adults.
JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is injected into the areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur, including the "parentheses lines" around the nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is designed to temporarily correct facial wrinkles for a smoother appearance to the face for adults over the age of 21.
JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA™ XC
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC injectable gel is for injection into the lips for lip augmentation and for correction of perioral lines, often called "lipstick lines" in adults over the age of 21.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC
As you age, the cheeks may flatten and the skin may begin to sag. This is caused by natural loss of volume in the cheek area, or what the experts call age-related midface volume loss. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin's surface, which provides lift and contour to the cheek area.

Benefits that dermal fillers provide:
Soften moderate to deep lines around the nose or mouth | Restore youthful fullness to cheeks that have lost volume | Enhance the lips and smooth out vertical lip lines | Refine the results of facials without over-tightening the skin |
Restored Facial Volume
A youthful face is characterized by full, plump skin. Unfortunately, the loss of collagen also contributes to the loss of facial volume, especially around the cheeks. When injected deep into the tissue, dermal fillers restore lost volume to lift sagging cheeks, enhance the cheekbones, and fill recessed facial contours
Thin lips may be hereditary or develop as a sign of aging. Many individuals experience dissatisfaction with the appearance of their thin lips. Dermal fillers improve lip definition, fullness, and shape. These injectable treatments are customizable for subtle or dramatic enhancement.
Benefits of Botox when applied to the face:
Relax and soften fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead (forehead lines), around the eyes (crow's feet), and around the mouth (frown lines)

THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF WRINKLES?
(as if one type wasn't enough!!)
STATIC and DYNAMIC
STATIC wrinkles are caused by gravity, the loss of fat and collagen, and the loss of the skin's elasticity. These types of wrinkles are visible regardless of the muscle action. They are always there, hence the term "static." Dynamic wrinkles eventually become static wrinkles. Some wrinkles are really more folds than lines, and may be dynamic or static. The deep lines that run from the nose to the sides of the mouth are called nasolabial folds. Lines that start at the corners of the mouth and go downward toward the jawline are called marionette lines.
They form for three reasons: years of dynamic facial movements, static forces such as gravity and chronological aging.
DYNAMIC wrinkles form as a result of muscle motion — including the way we express ourselves — as well as from habitual movement, as is the case of vertical lip lines in smokers and crow's feet in whose who squint often. When our facial muscles contract, the skin over those muscles stretches to accommodate. When we're young, our skin bounces back after squinting, smiling or laughing.
Eventually, our skin can no longer bounce back, and the dynamic wrinkles start to become more permanent. The most common dynamic wrinkles are across the forehead, at the outer corners of your eyes (crow's feet) and between the eyebrows.
WHAT HELPS WITH EACH TYPE OF WRINKLE?
Dermal fillers add volume underneath the skin to effectively diminish the appearance of static wrinkles.
Neurotoxin is primarily used to address dynamic wrinkles around the forehead and eyes.

FAQs
Botox® v. Dermal Fillers - What's the Difference?
Many people think they need Botox when in fact a dermal filler is the more appropriate option. The two are not interchangeable. BOTOX® is a neurotoxin that relaxes facial muscles; it does not “fill” anything out. Botox® is meant for “dynamic” wrinkles, mainly in the upper face, that form as a result of habitual muscle movements, such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and brow lines. It does little to help “static” wrinkles that do not change with facial movements.
DERMAL FILLERS, on the other hand, are ideally suited to static wrinkles on the mid to lower face, which have formed due to loss of facial volume and skin elasticity. They are physical substances that sit in the deeper layers of the skin or on the bone and are gradually absorbed by the
body over 6 to 24 months.
At your skin evaluation, Dr. Patel and the M50 staff will determine whether Botox, dermal fillers, or a combination of treatments will help you achieve your goals.
Are there any side effects or downtime after the procedure?
BOTOX® & DERMAL FILLERS - There is no downtime required following dermal filler treatment. Patients are free to return to their normal routines. However, you should avoid sun, alcohol, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. The most common side effects of dermal fillers are bruising, swelling, redness, and itching and tenderness around the injection sites. This should dissipate over the course of a few days. If it persists or gets worse, please contact our office.
Does the injection process hurt?
We use very thin needles but we can apply ice or a topical anesthetic if you wish. Most patients only report a mild discomfort and report a feeling similar to a pinch. There may be a slight discomfort whilst the filler is being injected into the face. To provide further relief and alleviate as much pain as possible, our fillers contain a pre-mixed local anaesthetic.
When can I expect to see results?
You may begin to notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines as soon as 24 to 48 hours after the procedure.
How long will effects of the treatment last?
BOTOX® - you can expect results to last up to 3-4 months for moderate to severe frown lines in adults. Botox® is not a permanent treatment. If you discontinue treatment the moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines will gradually return. Patients can maintain results for longer periods by undergoing regular maintenance treatments
DERMAL FILLERS - the amount of time a filler lasts will vary from patient to patient and by the type and brand of filler used. Longevity generally depends how your body reacts and which hyaluronic acid is used, but most dermal fillers will last between six and 18 months.
